Classic Chevolet Leads the Nation in Sales for the 7th Consecutive Year
When the Department of Transportation builds a highway right through a car dealership’s property, it would be fair to assume that this would greatly interfere with a dealership’s ability to compete. But not if that dealership is Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine. Despite the massive construction, blocked roads, re-routed exits and overall traffic conjestion caused by the DFW Connector project in 2012, Classic Chevrolet still managed to lead the entire nation in retail sales for the 7th year in a row. The accomplishment is not only remarkable, but also unprecendented. No other Chevrolet dealer in recent history has ever held the #1 volume sales title for this many consecutive years.
In a ceremony at the dealership on February 18th, Classic Chevrolet was presented with their 7th #1 Volume trophy from General Motors by Don Johnson, the U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet Sales and Service. “It is my pleasure to be here in person to congratulate Tom Durant and his entire team for once again being number one in retail sales in the country. And it’s particularly impressive when you look at all of the construction you had to contend with last year. It’s a testament to your focus on the customer.” Tom Durant, owner of Classic, took the opprotunity to address the large crowd of employees and invited guests to thank his team. “We pulled it out in 2012, thanks to all of you,” said Mr. Durant. “Every department and every person in this dealership made the difference. Now we just need to keep doing it.”
Classic Chevrolet sold 4320 new Chevys in 2012, bringing their total retail sales over the past seven years to 32,746 new vehicles. Don Johnson summed up Classic’s success by saying “You don’t get anything until you sell the car. But you don’t get that sale in the first place without keeping your customers and your employees happy. Tom Durant can attract great people, develop them, and then most importantly let them succeed.”
Chevrolet is expecting 2013 to be a banner year with 13 brand new products scheduled to be released. Don Johnson concluded, “We’ve got the momentum, we’ve got outstanding products coming out, and with dealers like Tom Durant, 2013 is going to be a very good year. I just wish I could clone him.”
